Students and teachers from the Spanish team visited the protected volcanic area of La Isleta

The 22nd of January 2016, students and teachers from the Spanish team visited the protected volcanic area of La Isleta, Gran Canaria. La Isleta (“Little Island”, in Spanish) surfaced one million years ago and it was initially separated from Gran Canaria. Sand accumulation made up an isthmus which connected the two islands and over which the town of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria lies nowadays. The town did not spread over La Isleta, because most of it is still under military control due to its strategic position, a circumstance which help preserve the area. During the visit, students could experience all these facts and, moreover, read some poetry from Alonso Quesada, one of the best writers from Gran Canaria.
